3/5/2007 World TeamTennis going green with FirmGreen
FirmGreen named Official Green Energy Company of WTT
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (March 5, 2007) - World TeamTennis announced today that it has signed a multi-year agreement with FirmGreen Energy, Inc. (FGE ™) to become Official Green Energy Company of WTT. FirmGreen will also be a sponsor of both the WTT Professional and Recreational Leagues.
For the 2007 WTT Pro League regular season, FirmGreen will focus its activation efforts on two teams - the Newport Beach Breakers and the Sacramento Capitals. FirmGreen will also "green" the WTT Championship Weekend in Sacramento, July 27-29, and the WTT Rec League National Finals in Indian Wells, Calif., November 1-4.
FGE plans to donate renewable energy credits (RECs) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission offsets to help WTT reduce its carbon footprint for these events. To calculate emissions associated with the seasonal league play and the championship events, FGE will review all event-related activities from travel to venue lighting, and will donate certified credits to offset that carbon footprint for the events.
A recyclable green carpet will also be utilized for player introductions at Sacramento, Newport Beach, the WTT Finals and the Rec League finals.
"FirmGreen is committed to helping individuals, institutions, and businesses live a greener lifestyle," said Steve Wilburn, Founder and President of FirmGreen Energy, Inc. "We are honored to work with Ilana Kloss, (WTT co-founder) Billie Jean King and World TeamTennis. Billie Jean has fought battles for equality and parity for individuals in every walk of life. By contributing the carbon offsets from our green energy projects we feel that we can enable a family to attend a WTT event and enjoy the talents of the male and female athletes competing on an equal basis with a minimum impact on the environment. It simply is the right thing to do."
"We're always looking to do things that matter to people in their community and getting greener certainly matters," said WTT CEO/Commissioner Ilana Kloss. "We want to continue to be a leader in our sport and this is a small way we can start to make even more of a positive difference in local communities. It's a great message to get out there to everyone, especially kids who are such an important part of the WTT experience."
As a developer of alternative energy projects, FGE creates and markets certified RECs and GHG emission offsets. Ordinarily, the company markets the credits to support its continuing investment in renewable energy and alternative fuels.
