Explorers must get fast start
Explorers general manager Jeff Launius took one look at his team’s 2008 World TeamTennis schedule, and knew it had better come out of the gates swinging.
The first six of 14 matches during the 20-day season are against teams from the Western Conference, historically the stronger of the league’s two divisions, including a July 12 match in St. Louis against Andy Roddick, who’ll join the Aces for that match.
“The schedule is what it is,” Launius said. “We just have to worry about coming and playing some good tennis right away.”
The Explorers open the season July 4 at Sacramento and play July 5 at Newport Beach before returning to Barney Allis Plaza for the home opener July 6. All home matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
No. 1 world-ranked men’s doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan will join the Explorers for four matches, including one home match on July 19. The season ends July 23 at home against Newport Beach. (Full schedule, C6)
Season tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling the Explorers at 816-513-5630.
